My name is Violet Lee. When I was 12 years old, with the help of my family, we started Cleveland H.U.G.S. I always had a heart to help other people. I have been helping people since I was about 5 years old when my dad ran a bus ministry for a local church and seen all the people in need. I couldn't believe all the kids and families that didn't have food, clothes, or even a home to live in. And when our house was destroyed by the April 27, 2011 Tornadoes, I knew what it was like to not have food, clothes or even a home to live in.
When I heard of Tennessee H.U.G.S. I told my dad that this is something I really wanted to do. People are always buying New Shoes and usually just throw out their old ones. And I thought what better way to help than Donate your old Shoes to help someone else. So, on November 23, 2012, with the help and support of my Family, I started Cleveland H.U.G.S. And the Good News is, we don't only collect Shoes! We also Collect Socks, Clothing, Blankets, Fans, Food, Etc. Anything that will help people.
In August 2014, we decided to expand our Mission. We will still be collecting Gently Used Shoes, Socks, Clothing, Fans, Etc. but we will be Hosting Fundraisers and Blood Drives to help other Non-Profits and Children/Adults with Cancer and Blood Diseases.
As you notices, our H.U.G.S. no longer stands just for Help Us Give Shoes. Not everyone has an extra pair of shoes, clothing, etc. to give. So we changed the S to also stand for SOMETHING. So you can now Help Us Give Shoes or you can Help Us Give Something!
Donating is Simple! We feel Everyone can give Something. Whether it's a Gently Used Shoe, or their Time, Talent, and yes, even their money. The Choice is up to you.
Cleveland H.U.G.S. is a Chapter of Tennessee H.U.G.S. Tennessee H.U.G.S. was founded in 2008 by then 9 year old Olivia Wright whose heart was led to find a way to help other children just like her. She could not believe that there were children right here in the United States that did not have shoes to wear. So she created Tennessee H.U.G.S. to help these children obtain shoes and to encourage other children to open up other H.U.G.S. Chapters all over the country.
Mission
Our mission is to serve, first and foremost, our community. (Bradley, McMinn County, & Polk County). We also serve communities in our State, The U.S. and the World.
Whether it's collecting Gently Used or New Shoes, Socks, Clothing, Jackets, Gloves, Mittens, Blankets, Etc. for Children and Families that need a Help Up, or the Homeless.
or
Hosting Fundraisers for various Non-Profits and for Children/Adults with Cancer and Blood Disorders.
We have 2 goals here at Cleveland H.U.G.S.
1. Meet the needs of others, all while showing them the Love of Jesus.
2. Involve other people, especially children and youth, and have them start their own H.U.G.S. Organizations, as well as encourage others to get out in their communities and make a difference.
